"Count Your Blessings"

For me this expression always meant simply, "be grateful". Tonite it occurred to me that it could perhaps be a good exercise in itself. I mean to literally count your blessings. See how many there are and put a number to it. Tomorrow I'm gonna do that. Not tonite because if it turns out to be a big number than I will have no excuse to continue to be so worried about one of the things that doesn't feel like a blessing.

A good friend once suggested that when I can't sleep I count my blessings using the alphabet; you might try that for a start.

You know, this phrase "count your blessings" has always kinda bugged me. Just because you or I may be blessed beyond belief, does that mean that we don't have the right to focus on a negative thing(s) in our lives...I think not. Blessings are blessings, and yes while you may be way better off than someone who doesn't have many, you are still entitled to worry about what's bothering you as well, without the guilt that others may try to lay on you because they see you as having "no reason to be unhappy".
