"Why We Do Stuff?"

Or why don't we do stuff. I'm a strong believer in the theory that we generally continue to do the things we do because we associate more pain with a potential change than we do with the current situation. That is not necessarily a bad thing because while it can prevent us from changing negative habits it can also keep us on track doing good stuff like exercising.

The difficulty comes in deciding which is which. For example, this blog that I have maintained faithfully for 575 consecutive days. Some days it actually causes me some stress and I wonder why I continue. I like to believe that it is because of the connection, or reconnection I have made with so many people and my fear of losing that. When I am in the mood I also enjoy it very much. Or---- is it just another obesssion? Who knows.

Young Roo, give me some advice.

“Sit down and put down everything that comes into your head and then you're a writer. But an author is one who can judge his own stuff's worth, without pity, and destroy most of it."---Sidonie Gabrielle

I think the only obsessive part of the blog for you is your feeling that you need to post every single day. If it is causing stress, don't do it. The roofing job is a good example of that. Nice pictures, great for you to be able to work with your whole family, but pretty lame as far as encouraging any thought or growth on the part of the poster or the readers. I think Young Roo might disagree with me, but that is my two cents worth.

Well...."Old Roo' disagrees. It does encourage growth both for the reader and the poster in many ways.
It you are an avid reader to the blog, like most of his friends and family are, you will have read that we are on a disfunctional spectrum...which I am embrace because it has made me and each of my family members better people.
Anyway, the post of the roofing job was to show that a family can set aside some differences, such as dishonesty, trust, hurt, etc. and come together and complete a major project that leaves everyone one us feeling stronger in many ways...emotionaly, physically, and financially. Hopefully this will be contagious for anyone going through any kind of adversity with their family.
Side bar- In the midst family adversity, it can be extremely stressful and hard but when we come together and manage to complete a huge project as such, it makes the adversity all worthwhile.
I apologize for the lengthy response, but I am still working on being concise and to the point.
Old John, I am just glad it was only two cents worth. Love you for being real.

I agree with Roo. I loved the roof pictures, precisely because it was so nice to see all of my family, especially all of my brothers, working together. I personally look forward to every new blog post you make, dad.

With that being said, I agree with Old John that there shouldn't be any sort of obligation to post every single day. If you've got something to say, go for it. But if not, no need to force yourself to post something.

Love,
Mike

I love your response Old Roo, but I would suggest that it was the roofing job itself that accomplished all those great things you mentioned. The posting of it did not really capture any of the emotions or feelings or thoughts you describe. (at least from this readers point of view) Even though we may disagree on the value of the post, I am very happy that the job did those things for you and your family. I am also proud of you for not being afraid to tell me how you felt.

well 1st my personal opinion on why we do certain things and why we dont do certian things are simply because we are scared. i have found that a lot of reasons for me doing or not doing things in the past are because i was scared. as far as the blog goes i love reading it everyday and im sure everyone else who reads it enjoys reading it every day aswell. but i agree with my dad if its causing u stress the just dont do it for that day, its not like the blog is going to disapear if you take a night off and its not like you are going to loose your readers either. even thought you mite to some level think those things its not exactly true. i know i will keep checking to see if you post anything if u decide to take a night off. but like i had said before it kinnda all ties in with being a bit scared for whatever reason it may be! Love you tones!!

maybe just try 1 night without blogging and just relax and spen that little extra time with family and see what happens!

<3 i hope this helps
